Mission Viejo is one of America’s original master-planned communities, now a city of about 90,000 with tree-lined streets, mature landscaping, and a private lake with its own beaches and summer concert series. The lake, and everything else
Lake Mission Viejo membership, included with most homes in the north end, means paddleboarding, lakeside beaches, and Fourth of July fireworks minutes from your door. Beyond the lake: Oso Creek Trail, the Norman P. Murray community center, Saddleback College’s concerts and classes, and youth sports leagues for every season.
A note for buyers who want single-level living
Mission Viejo’s original neighborhoods went up in the 1960s and 70s, which left it with one of South Orange County’s largest supplies of single-level ranch homes. For anyone planning to age in place, or for buyers with mobility needs, these are some of the best accessible-living candidates in the county, and I track them closely. What homes cost
Condos and townhomes generally run the $500Ks-$800Ks; single-family homes mostly $1M-$1.4M, with lake-close and view properties higher. Dollar for dollar, Mission Viejo remains one of South OC’s most livable buys.
