Every buyer deserves an agent who is unreservedly in their corner. For queer buyers, that can feel harder to count on. Maybe you’ve braced yourself before introducing your partner at an open house, or wondered whether a neighborhood will feel like home for your family. You have rights here, and more options than you might expect. This is my community too; my practice is queer-owned, and I’m the voice behind Laguna Niguel Pride.
Your rights, plainly stated
In California, discrimination in housing based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression is illegal in sales, lending, and rentals. No seller, landlord, lender, or agent may treat you differently because of who you are or who you love. If anything in your transaction ever feels off, tell your agent; if I’m your agent, I will handle it directly and document everything. You will never need to “tone it down” to buy a house with me.
Finding your neighborhood
South Orange County may surprise you. Laguna Beach’s queer legacy runs deep, and its warmth spreads inland: Laguna Niguel celebrates Pride as a community, and across Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Mission Viejo, and San Juan Capistrano you’ll find rainbow flags on porches, affirming congregations, PFLAG chapters, and school communities that show up for queer families. Wherever you’re looking, I’ll connect you with the verifiable local picture (community organizations, congregations, events, and public data) so you can judge for yourself what feels like home. You choose the neighborhood; my job is making sure you have real information and a smooth path to the keys.
Practical notes for queer buyers
- Buying with a partner, married or not: how you hold title matters (community property, joint tenancy, and other options each have different tax and inheritance implications). I’ll flag the decision points and connect you with a knowledgeable attorney or CPA.
- Your team matters: I work with lenders, escrow officers, and inspectors I know to be affirming professionals, so you’re not crossing your fingers about who escrow assigns you.
- Selling a home? The same promise applies: marketing that shows your home well, and a negotiation run by someone whose legal duty is to you alone.
